Kraken Sails Warranty

At Kraken Sails, we stand behind the quality, craftsmanship, and performance of our sails. Our commitment to excellence ensures that your sail is designed and built to meet your specific needs, delivering exceptional performance and durability. We are proud to offer the following comprehensive warranty to provide you with peace of mind on every adventure.

Our Warranty Commitment

Kraken Sails warrants all new stock and custom sails against defects in materials and workmanship for a period of two (2) years from the date of delivery or up to 10,000 nautical miles sailed by the yacht, whichever comes first. This warranty applies to sails used under normal conditions for their intended purpose, as discussed with our expert sail consultants during the design process.

What We Guarantee

  • Perfect Fit: Your sail will be designed and manufactured to fit your boat’s rig based on measurements provided or taken by a Kraken Sails representative. We guarantee the primary two-dimensional measurements (luff, leech, foot, and clew height) will be accurate. Should any fit issues arise during commissioning due to our measurements or production, we will repair or replace the sail at no additional cost.
  • Functionality: Your sail will be compatible with your yacht’s systems, including sail tracks, furling systems, hydraulic winches, reef cars, and battens, based on information provided. If the sail fails to function as intended due to design or manufacturing issues (not resulting from yacht system malfunctions), we will make necessary repairs or replacements at no cost within the first year of ownership.
  • Material and Workmanship Quality: We use only premium sailcloth and materials from leading global suppliers, adhering to strict production standards. If your sail exhibits defects in materials or craftsmanship within two years or 10,000 nautical miles of delivery, we will repair or replace it at no additional cost.
  • Structural Integrity: Kraken Sails are built to withstand the demands of their intended use, whether for cruising, racing, or offshore adventures. If your sail experiences structural failure within two years or 10,000 nautical miles due to manufacturing defects (and not due to misuse, improper handling, or external damage), we will repair or replace it at no cost.

Warranty Process

In the unlikely event that you encounter an issue with your sail, our dedicated team is here to assist. To initiate a warranty claim:

  1. Submit a Warranty Service Form: All claims must be initiated by completing our Warranty Service Form, available at krakensails.com/warranty. This form ensures we can efficiently track and process your claim. Submissions must be made within 30 days of noticing the issue and include detailed information, such as photos, and a description of the issue.
  2. Contact Us: After submitting the form, we will be in touch to confirm receipt and discuss next steps.
  3. Repair or Shipping Options: If a repair is authorised, we will work with you to find the most suitable solution, which may include returning the sail to a Kraken Sails loft or working with a local sailmaker of your choosing, provided they meet our quality standards. We understand that many of our customers may be in remote locations, and a local sailmaker may be more convenient. Based on the Warranty Service Form submission, including photos, we may cover the costs of repairs at the local sailmaker. Alternatively, you may be required to ship the sail to our designated Kraken Sails repair facility (address provided with approval). You are responsible for shipping costs to the facility; Kraken Sails will cover return shipping for approved warranty repairs or replacements.
  4. Assessment and Resolution: Our team will assess whether the sail can be repaired (either locally or at our facility) or if a replacement is necessary. If a replacement is required, we will provide a Return Authorisation Number (RAN) and a prepaid shipping label for the return of the original sail. Sails returned without an RAN will not be accepted.

Warranty Terms and Conditions

  • Normal Use: This warranty covers sails used within their specified range and purpose, as discussed with your Kraken Sails consultant. Damage caused by misuse, neglect, improper handling (e.g., flogging, excessive halyard tension, or spreader/stanchion contact), or extreme conditions is not covered.
  • Continued Use with Known Damage: We understand that equipment issues can occur at sea, and deciding to continue using a sail with known damage puts the sail at risk of further deterioration or cascading problems affecting other components. It is ultimately the skipper’s decision whether to take the sail out of use or continue using it. In the event of continued use with known damage, Kraken Sails reserves the right to repair rather than replace the sail and may void the warranty entirely if the continued use exacerbates the damage. Prompt reporting and repair are required to maintain warranty coverage.
  • Mast or Rigging Failure: This warranty does not cover damage to sails resulting from mast, rigging, or other yacht system failures, as these introduce abnormal loads beyond the sail’s design specifications.
  • Mileage Limit: The warranty is limited to 10,000 nautical miles sailed by the yacht, as tracked from the date of delivery. Owners must maintain records (e.g., logbooks) to verify mileage if requested during a warranty claim.
  • Maintenance and Care: Proper maintenance, storage, and sail handling are required to keep the warranty valid.
  • Exclusions: This warranty does not cover normal wear and tear, unauthorized modifications, or damage caused by yacht system malfunctions (e.g., hydraulic winch failures). UV protection on acrylic or Dacron sails is covered for one year from delivery.
  • Transferability: The warranty applies only to the original purchaser and is not transferable unless approved by Kraken Sails on a case-by-case basis.
  • Return Policy: We offer a 30-day return policy for stock sails, provided they are unused and in original condition. Custom sails are non-returnable unless defective. A restocking fee may apply if rig measurements are not verified prior to ordering.
