Sail Basics

This allows us to work out which questions to ask you during the measure. If at any point you'd like to leave the form and come back to it later, pressing save for later will email you a link you can come back to for 30 days. Before you get started, you'll want; A Fibreglass measuring tape, a metal measuring tape, a set of calipers, a regular ruler. It will be easier to measure with 2 people, and you probably want to allow yourself 45mins to an hour to measure properly for a main.
Do you have a backstay?
Do you have a 'black band' for handicap or class
This is the black band at the top of your mast, you may be able to hoist your halyard past it.

Boom Length Measurements

All measurements are taken from the back surface of the mast. If you have an external mast track, they're still taken from the back surface of the mast, i.e. behind the external mast track. You'll want to have someone at the gooseneck holding a metal measuring tape against the back of the mast, and you'll want to take the numbers from the aft end of the boom. Make sure you've moved any boom bags or flaked sails so the tape measure can run straight along the top surface of the boom.
Back surface of mast to longest (most aft) point of boom. This helps us with clearance of backstay. It's the total length of your boom rather than the length of the foot of the sail.
While you're at the back of the mast, measure the distance from the very end of your boom, to your backstay. If your backstay is adjustable take the slack out of it before you measure.
This is the distance from the back surface of the mast, to the bearing point of the outhaul when it is at maximum length. This will be with your outhaul at the same place you had it for the leech halyard measurement. If you have an external car track, still measure to the back surface of the mast, not to the track.
This is the distance from the back surface of your mast, to the bearing point of the outhaul when it is at black band length. This should be the same outhaul length you used for black band leech.

Spar Measurements

Using your fibreglass tape measure, measure around the mast in cm.
